This winter, the weather in New York has been a little bizarre. It snowed in October and has been oddly warm ever since (of course, New Yorkers can't enjoy the unseasonable warmth – we have turned from our usual cold complaints to starting every conversation with "can you BELIEVE this weather? Ugh, it is SO warm outside. ewww. Where is the SNOW??"). Anyway, the point of that meteorology aside was to say that last week, it rained – like three straight days of wellies kind of rain – and it was not fun. In order to combat said rain, I made a dinner date with a good friend at super cozy Cafe Cluny in the West Village. Seated at a corner table overlooking the wet NYC sidewalks, we happily flaunted our warmth at the soggy umbrella-toting passersby. Ha! we're dry! And filling up on delicious food! Ha Ha!
Since we were not in the company of any men, my friend and I decided to share a few vegetable-only appetizers and sides – the Roasted Broccoli Salad, Pumpkin & Goat Cheese Fritters and Roasted Baby Brussels Sprouts (okay, those had some bacon mixed in, but does bacon really count as meat? I feel it's more of a deliciously crispy accent that happens to make anything and everything taste better). While everything was wonderful, the broccoli salad stole my heart. Mixed with golden raisins and toasted almonds in a pickled pearl onion vinaigrette, the combination was refreshing and simple yet had a heartiness to it that was utterly satisfying.
So, Cafe Cluny – highly recommended, rain or shine.
p.s. Seth Meyers (Weekend Update anchor on SNL) was also there that night, and he is much cuter in real life...just in case you were wondering.
